Discover Vibrant Health

Do What You Can, Where You Are, With What You Have!

-Teddy Roosevelt

Living the life you are meant to live.

In a society that emphasizes the "ideal body", the "ideal salary", and the "ideal life"; we tend to forget that we are each unique individuals with unique gifts, desires, and talents. Trying to attain an ideal that is not inheritantly "who we are" will always lead to disappointment and will be nearly impossible to sustain. By exploring who you are and what kind of life you want to live, you will establish your intentions and focus your attention on living the life you are meant to live. This is a great way to begin the process of achieving vibrant health.

Here are some tools to get you started:

Download your FREE Pathways to Vibrant Health Journaling Page.

A Timeline of Your Life

Create a timeline of your life from birth until today. Include all major milestones such as education, events, marriage, divorce, births, relocations, career changes, etc. For each of these milestones, use your journaling page to list 5 positive things that you learned as a result of that time in your life. It could be a skill, an opportunity that became available, an awareness of what is important to you, or a keen feeling of what you do not want in your life. Try to get a sense of the pathways that brought you to where you are today.

Defining Vibrant Health

What is vibrant health?

There is no single definition of vibrant health.  It will be different for each one of us.  This will require you to think and create a vision of what vibrant health “looks, feels, and sounds like” to you – it should include all elements of your life – family, friends, pets, work, play, spiritual, home, health, hobbies, finances, etc.

Formal Definitions are generalized – they don’t speak to the individual and they don’t include the unique detail that will be in your definition.

Creating your unique vision of vibrant health:

There are no limitations to how you define vibrant health…as long as it is true to you!  You should not concern yourself with the logistics and feasibility of achieving your vision – everything is possible.  Try to resist the “negative and judgmental thoughts” that might come into your head throughout this process.  Acknowledge them all with “yes, I can” and “this is about me”.  Write all your aspirations and thoughts down – your true picture of vibrant health.

Think about all the facets of your life – family, friends, pets, work, play, spiritual, home, health, hobbies, finances, etc.

Answer the following questions:

How do you feel?

What are you doing?

Who are you with?

Where are you?

What do you see?

What makes "your heart sing"?

Carefully pull together the elements that would result in you living your life in “vibrant health”.  This is like a fingerprint…no two will be the same.  The end result will by your reference guide to begin your journey…a constant reminder of what vibrant health is to you and a source to help you make choices that reflect your intentions.  This is the vision that will direct your path…it can take turns and there will be times that you may back track or need to make adjustments, but ultimately you will be living your life!

Create a Vision Board

To create a vision board depicting your unique vision of vibrant health begin collecting things that mean something to you - photos, words, pictures, quotes, journal entries, and colorful fabrics. Get a poster board and create a collage of your vision. Keep your vision board in a place where you will see it on a regular basis and be reminded of your intentions for your life.

A personal note from Adeline: "I put the Slow Food logo along with other "food and friends" items on my vision board over a year ago to represent my intention to get more involved with the Slow Food Organization and pursue my passions of cooking, and eating healthy, organic, local, and sustainable food. Just this week, I was selected to be the Volunteer Coordinator for the Slow Food in Schools Program here in Phoenix. As a result, I've been invited to attend the Slow Food in Schools Leadership Convention in San Franciso at the end of August. I will be in the midst of some of the best food minds in the world and have access to amazing food...life doesn't get much better than this as I put my attention toward my intention!" I encourage you to give it a try.
